Chamber music formed one of the most important parts of Franz Schubert’s compositional output. His Octet is both the largest instrumentation and the longest work of any of Schubert’s chamber music, and has been one of the major works for mixed chamber ensemble since it was first commissioned by Austrian noble and amateur clarinetist Ferdinand Troyer. The RSCP closes its 2019-2020 chamber music season with the Schubert Octet, alongside music by French flutist Phillipe Gaubert and Baroque violinist Guiseppe Tartini.
